Founded in 1982 by Eleanor Winhold, our Montessori approach focuses on child-led learning. Students are encouraged to be the directors of their own study, identifying and pursuing projects that interest them, with the teacher serving as a guide to their learning.
Much of the Montessori experience is hands-on. In Winhold Academy children are encouraged to go at their own pace, work collaboratively and individually, and spend time working on projects they enjoy.
Montessori education offers our children opportunities to develop their potential as they step out into the world as engaged, competent, responsible, and respectful citizens with an understanding and appreciation that learning is for life. An unique educational approach that nurtures a child’s intrinsic desire to learn. Montessori focuses on the whole child—his cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.
In Winhold we go way beyond a simple daycare. As soon as you enter any of our classrooms, you know that something different is afoot. You will see children working independently and in groups, quite often with specially designed learning materials; deeply engaged in their work; and respectful of themselves and their surroundings.
Your child will receive a top-level education which is student-led and self-paced but guided, assessed, and enriched by knowledgeable and caring teachers, the leadership of their peers, and a nurturing environment.
